If you’re planning engagement photos in the Baltimore area, one of the hardest parts is choosing a location that actually feels like you. Some couples want elegant architecture and city energy, others want open fields at sunset, waterfront vibes, or somewhere a little more unexpected.


The good news? The Baltimore area has all of it.


Below are some of my favorite engagement session locations in and around Baltimore with tips on what each place is best for, the vibe, and the best time to shoot there!

1) Federal Hill


If you want iconic Baltimore skyline views, Federal Hill is hard to beat. You get the harbor, city lights, AVAM, waterfront paths, and an incredible sunset overlooking downtown.


This location works especially well for couples who want:

  • Classic Baltimore views
  • Sunset photos with skyline backdrops

Best time for photos: Weekday evenings near sunset.

2) MT. Vernon & The Walters Art Gallery


If you want your engagement photos to feel artistic and editorial, this combo is incredible. The Walters gives you elegant interiors and classic architecture, while Mount Vernon adds historic charm, fountains, marble steps, and beautiful streets nearby.


This location is ideal for couples who:

  • Want indoor backup options during colder months


Best time for photos: Morning through afternoon. The Walters closes at 5pm so thats something to keep in mind.

3) Soldiers Delight


If you’re looking for a location that feels wild, open, and completely different from most Maryland parks, Soldiers Delight is such an underrated spot for engagement photos. Yes its a bit outside the city but not too far! The landscape almost feels more like the western U.S. than central Maryland, with rolling golden fields, unique rock formations, and soft grasses that glow beautifully at sunset.


This location is especially perfect for couples who:


  • Love hiking or spending time outdoors
  • Want a more natural, earthy aesthetic
  • Prefer open landscapes over forests
  • Want engagement photos that feel adventurous but still romantic


One of my favorite things about Soldiers Delight is how peaceful it feels. Compared to busier Baltimore locations, sessions here tend to feel slower, more intimate, and really focused on the two of you.


Best time for photos: Evenings at sunset for that beautiful glow!

4) Fells Point

Fells Point has so much character. Between the cobblestone streets, waterfront views, historic rowhomes, bars, murals, and little alleyways, it feels effortlessly romantic without trying too hard.


I especially recommend Fells Point for couples who:


  • Love a more candid/documentary feel
  • Want photos that feel lively and authentic
  • Enjoy going out together in the city
  • Want variety without driving to multiple locations


Bonus: You can easily turn your engagement session into a date night afterward.

Patterson Park is a great photo locations in Baltimore for couples who want a little bit of everything in one place. Between the tree-lined paths, open fields, historic pagoda, fountains, gardens, and skyline views, it offers a ton of variety without needing to travel between locations.

7) Clyburn Arboretum

Cylburn is one of the best engagement photo locations in Baltimore for greenery and soft romantic light. It has gardens, stone paths, open lawns, wooded areas, and elegant mansion backdrops all in one spot.

8) Rocks State Park

Rocks State Park is one of the most beautiful outdoor engagement photo locations near Baltimore for couples who want dramatic scenery and a more adventurous feel. Between the massive rock formations, wooded trails, streams, and overlooks, it creates engagement photos that feel cinematic and connected to nature.


The most well-known area is the King and Queen Seat overlook, which gives incredible views and adds a really unique backdrop you don’t find at many Maryland locations. There is also the Kilgore Falls nearby, a large waterfall and popular swimming spot.

9) The Gardens at Strong mansion


Strong Mansion has one of the most beautiful gardens areas I have seen, perfect for couples that want an outdoor session with an elevated, romantic, and timeless feel. Tucked near Sugarloaf Mountain, this location combines beautifully maintained gardens, ivy-covered stone walls, large staircases and historic architecture. So far I have only photographed weddings here but they do offer time for engagement sessions during the week!


This location is perfect for couples who:


  • Want an elegant garden-style engagement session
  • Love a more editorial and timeless aesthetic
  • Want variety without changing locations
  • Prefer a quieter, more secluded feel compared to Baltimore city spots


One of the best parts about this location is how versatile it is. You can create photos that feel romantic and upscale in the gardens and then you are only a short drive and walk to the top of the mountain if you want also want some photos at the overlook!


Best time for photos: Evenings on weekdays in late spring, summer, and fall.

10) Hampden


Hampden is such a fun engagement photo location for couples who want something colorful, creative, and distinctly Baltimore. Between the vintage storefronts, murals, string lights, rowhomes, and quirky neighborhood character, sessions here tend to feel really personal and full of energy.


The Avenue (36th Street) is the heart of the neighborhood and gives you tons of variety within walking distance — from cozy coffee shops and neon signs to textured alleyways and colorful backdrops.


This location is perfect for couples who:

  • Love local restaurants, coffee shops, and city neighborhoods
  • Prefer a more laid-back and playful vibe
