There is something magical about a George Peabody Library Wedding - the towering cast-iron balconies, the marble floors, the warm glow from the skylight overhead, and a room whispered to by centuries of stories. As a Baltimore-based documentary wedding photographer, I believe your wedding day should feel like it unfolds naturally — and the photos should simply bear witness.


A & S were not too keen on spending time taking portraits and couple photos, what they really wanted was to celebrate with their family and friends and tear up the dance floor. Docuementary photography was a perfect fit for them. I focused on documenting the story with an observational approach — capturing the little moments and the chaos of the dance floor (seriously check out these dance floor photos) of the day. What makes the George Peabody Library such a perfect place for a wedding?

This historic venue in the heart of Baltimores Mt. Vernon neighborhood is a historical gem. It has the most iconic ceremony/reception spaces with its "Cathedral of Books" that you wont find anywhere else.

Are their restrictions for the George Peabody Library?

In order to preserve and protect this historic building and its books there are several restrictions for events. Guests must remain in certain areas, photography and guests are not allowed in the library stacks, use of the spiral staircase is an additional fee are restricted to 1 hour of use. I will work closely with the library coordinator to make sure everything is planned out and there will be no disruptions to your day.

Where should I get ready if I am getting married at the George Peabody Library?

There are tons of great hotels within walking distance of library. Perfect for you to get ready and your guests to have an easy trip back to their hotel room after the reception. Some of my favorites are :

Are the travel expenses for you to photograph a wedding at the GPL?

Nope! The George Peabody Library is within my travel radius for weddings!

Where should guests park for weddings at the George Peabody Library?

There are lots of parking garages in Mt. Vernon within walking distance and lots of street parking as well. The George Peabody Library has its own parking lot connected to the building located at 606 St. Paul Street Baltimore, MD 21202.

Is the lighting good for photography at the George Peabody Library?

The space is lit by a central skylight and warm ambient interior lighting. While the venue is naturally dimmer than traditional ballrooms, this creates a romantic, intimate atmosphere that photographs beautifully — especially with a photographer experienced in low-light documentary work. I can also pull out my trusty flash set up for the reception after gets dark to make sure there is enough light to capture moments.

Can you have both the ceremony and reception at the Peabody Library?

Yes. Many couples choose to hold their ceremony in the Reading Room and transition seamlessly into their reception in the same space. This creates a cohesive, atmospheric experience and reduces the need for complex logistics.

How far in advance should we book you for a George Peabody Library Wedding?

Because this venue is one of Baltimore’s most sought-after locations, couples typically book photography 9–18 months in advance, especially for Saturdays in the fall.
